REvive la Biba!

Today saw the opening of Barbara Hulanicki's range for Topshop. Another highstreet/designer collaboration, I know, but this time, I have to say, incredibly reasonably priced!
I was shocked to see the cutest little dresses for a mere £50, along with tops for as little as £18.

My favourite pieces were the shoe print and cotton girl jersey tops, the slashed neckline dress with the glasses print on it and definitely the 100% silk scarves for £22! And of course the free poster you can pick up in store :)

Be Inspired..

..reads the bottom slogan on the May 2009 issue of British Vogue. What a coincidence. I set up this blog to do just that..inspire myself.

British Vogue May 2009

And after reading the spread about pictures that changed the perspective of designers and photographers in the industry, it made me think about pictures I had come across in the past that had made me want to go out and sew/photograph/design etc.

US Vogue: December 2003

This is my favourite fashion shot ever. It combines all my favourite things..
Galliano; my favourite designer, Vodianova; one of my favourite models, Annie Leibovitz; one of my favourite photographers, and of course, Alice In Wonderland, my all time favourite story.
I love the way Leibovitz has captured the fairytale element in each of the shots. Take a look at the rest of the shots here.

Vogue Feature: The Last Waltz (Left: Nicholas Ghesquière for Balenciaga)

I came across this when researching peplums on style.com a while back. There's just something about that outfit that I absolutely loved. Funnily enough, it was around the time I was attending the Versace lecture, and with a dilemma of what to wear, I cut up an old cream summer jacket, and added a stiff peplum to the bottom of it, chucked on some grey cigarette pants, and waltzed out of the door..

First Post.. Sketchbooks, Donatella and Pacman.

Finally, I've found a space to store pictures, information, musings etc, without having to spend a fortune on sketchbooks, notepads, printing and binding. As it is, I already spent enough on those for my degree!
Seeing as blogging seems to be the way forward, I thought I'd give it a try, properly this time, as I set up this account years ago, but never got round to following it through.

So, I was skimming through a pile of back copies of Style this week, when I came across an amazing opportunity..Colin McDowell in conversation with Giles Deacon! I've been to a Style lecture before, when McDowell was in conversation with Donatella Versace, and it was such a great experience. There was even a chance to ask questions to her personally, and meet and greet at the end! And for me, I just wanted to go in the hope that Giles would talk about his Pacman inspired S/S09 collection - it was my absolute favourite collection for this season!

Shame I read the article on the 7th..the talk took place on the 6th.
